Hughes' cornerstone of continuous improvement: an internal evaluation and corrective action system

Article Abstract:

Hughes Space and Communications Co, a manufacturer of telecommunication and meteorology satellites, has adopted an internal evaluation and corrective action system in its effort to successfully implement total quality management. Instead of emphasizing compliance with procedural requirements, the company has focused on the evaluation and improvement of work processes. With its determination to institute total quality within the organization, the company can be certain of meeting the demands of an increasingly competitive and dynamic marketplace.

On the international horizon: a tough battle over software systems

Article Abstract:

Japanese companies are ahead of their US counterparts in terms of using software systems to increase productivity. To regain their international competitiveness, US software manufacturers need to invest manpower and resources to develop products of world-class quality. They should focus on developing software systems that are reliable, standardized and reduce production cycles. They should also provide adequate support services to increase customer satisfaction in the software systems.
