Article Abstract:

Those who seek to buy eggs produced under conditions that are kind to the chicken may find it difficult to tell what the labels mean although they may say "barn-laid" or "free-range." The government in Australia does not regulate the labeling of eggs, so the labels may not be accurate. Caged birds produce 95% of the eggs for sale in the country. Up to five birds may be in a cage. The New Zealand Federation of Animal Societies says the bird can stand erect in one part of the cage only and that they cannot move unless all the birds in the cage more simultaneously.

A class of nontoxic nanoparticles for in vivo tumor targeting and spectroscopic detection based on the use of pegylated colloidal gold and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is reported.
