Insider purchases ... look before you leap

Article Abstract:

Current sell-buy ratio at 1.9:1 is an encouraging development for sellers after it soared to as high as 4.2:1 in Nov 1997. However, a closer examination of the buy-side analysis would reveal that some insider purchases have become too sophisticated. Insider purchases at companies that were fueled by either company-sponsored loan programs and by a provision that insiders should maintain specified stakes in the firm over the course of their employment, make insider buying a negative preoccupation.

Field of dreams

Article Abstract:

Aran Energy's assets have been valued at 106 pence per share by SSI, an oil consultancy. This valuation is above an offer made by Atlantic Richfield (Arco) for Aran Energy and depends on a relatively high valuation for the Schiehallion field. The stake held by Aran Energy depends on the location of the field and how much of it lies within a block in which Aran Energy holds a stake of 17.65%. Arco rejects the valuation which also gives a higher value for untouched blocks.

Insider selling at the integrated oils may reflect future price concerns

Article Abstract:

The future of oil prices hinges on the trend in insider selling in the integrated oil stocks, particularly on the insiders in Exxon, Amoco, Mobil, Atlantic Richfield and Occidental Petroleum. The trend will also depend on the response of oil producing countries to French Pres. Jacques Chirac's call to lift the economic sanctions on Iraq. France, which is supported by Russia and China, has developed an economic strategy to improve its trade relations with Arab countries.
