Physiological responses of firefighters and performance predictors during a simulated rescue of hospital patients

Article Abstract:

The physiological responses of firefighters and performance predictors during a simulated rescue of hospital patients were examined to relate the firefighters' performance to their endurance, strength, and working technique. Rescuing patients at a hospital was physically demanding, while the time needed to complete the task depended on the maximal oxygen uptake in absolute values and the working technique used.

The effects of different thermal environments on the physiological responses of firefighters to a training drill

Article Abstract:

Selected responses to a training drill in varying thermal environments was investigated. The subjects were randomly assigned to perform simulated ceiling overhaul task. Physiological and psychological measures were implemented during the firefighting activity. It was observed that live fire activities performed by firefighters in hot, hostile environments increased cardiovascular and psychological strain.

Peripheral arterial tone as an on-line measure of load in a simulated flight task

Article Abstract:

An investigation of the variations in continuous and discrete flight demands by measuring the peripheral arterial tone showed that peripheral arterial tone amplitude was lower in the difficult level of the continuous task and can be used as an on-line measure of these demands.
