International syndicated credits

Article Abstract:

There was a 13% increase in syndicated credits in 1997 translating to $390.4 billion. Competition among banks resulted in improved terms for new credits and credit restructuring for borrowers thereby increasing the activity of the latter in the international market. Although members of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development accounted for 85% of the borrowing, there was a notable increase in the participation of emerging economies in the syndicated credits market.

International syndicated credits

Article Abstract:

Total syndicated credits in 1994 amounted to $202.8 billion, posting an increase of $66.1 billion compared to 1993 figures. The significant increase in the volume of syndicated loans can be attributed to the falling margins which resulted from intense competition between banks acquiring assets. A breakdown by currency of international syndicated lending indicates that the US dollar remained the most important currency of denomination.

International syndicated credits

Article Abstract:

The notable rise in the amount of international syndicated credits in 1995 was due mainly to the increase in the incidence of mergers and the favorable terms of such loans. US and UK citizens led those of other OECD countries in the patronage of the international syndicated loan market. In Europe, sovereigns were among the most conspicuous borrowers.
