It's about value

Article Abstract:

The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) of the US Navy, despite being under severe budgetary pressure, continues to provide relevant military education to the nation's seamen. The NPS, which offers its services to all US armed services and to over 60 foreign countries, provides a curricula that is highly regarded in the higher education community. However, it is argued that the lack of visibility by the educational institution contributes to its being misunderstood by the country's policymakers.

Danger beyond the pier

Article Abstract:

The US Naval Coastal Warfare (NCW) group is the branch of the Navy that is tasked with protecting the country's maritime assets. The threat of terrorism to US naval forces, as clearly shown by the attacks on the USS Cole in Oct 2000, and at Khobar Towers in 1996, calls for a radical shift in the way that NCW operatives are currently being trained. A substantial enhancement of the capabilities of the NCW is crucial if the country wishes to avoid a repeat of such incidents in the future.

Is Navy "information management" becoming an oxymoron?

Article Abstract:

The US Navy's information management-related business methods are overly duplicative and stifle innovation. The service's chaotic and divided information management commands are clogging what should be a seamless access line to information needed by warfighters. Rapid changes in information technology that are easily available to US adversaries dictate that the Navy now find out how much it spends and how many people work in its information fields.
