JSF controversy: will weight cost Lockheed Martin 1 billion dollars?

Article Abstract:

The possibility of Lockheed Martin Corporation having to forfeit its award fees by an amount of one billion dollars over the next three years, if it fails to reduce the weight of its F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), is discussed. The problems caused in the functioning of the plane by even a small percentage increase in its weight are described.
