Kvaerner bid throws Trafs a lifeline

Article Abstract:

Kvaerner has made an agreed offer for Trafalgar House which has led to a rise in Trafalgar's share price of 20%. The bid has to be cleared by competition authorities in the European Union (EU) and will not be unconditional at least until April 1996. Kvaerner is interested in Trafalgar's construction and engineering activities, and Cunard is likely to be disposed of if the deal goes ahead. Shareholders are faced with a wait and a possible disappointment in terms of bad financial news from Trafalgar House, so they may be better off selling before the deal is agreed.
