Legislators, shipbuilders see peril in shrinking Navy fleet

Article Abstract:

Legislators and shipbuilders have asserted that with China modernizing its naval force, the United States shouldn't be shrinking its Navy fleet and they are planning to mount a lobbying campaign to alter the proposed Navy budget plan for the fiscal year ending 20 September 2006. The American Shipbuilding Association has expressed its displeasure on the Navy considering giving the contract of building the next generation DD (X) destroyers to just one shipyard.

Air force, DOD, face tight finances: General

The Air Force General reported that Air Force and Department of Defense of the United States would face tight finances in coming years. He is of the opinion that the Air Force should transform by acquiring new technologies and ensure that the new systems provide increased capabilities at low cost.

Navy: Shipbuilding workforce on track to drop 25 percent

Article Abstract:

U.S. Navy and Marine Corps senior leaders are assembling at the Washington Navy Yard for a meeting to make an attempt to trace out the problem of shipbuilding. The sea services are submitting a proposed 2006 budget to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld requesting for only four warships.
