Lex Service: bumpy ride for dealers

Article Abstract:

Lex Service is a UK automobile dealer with some 100 retail outlets selling the main brands of vehicles. The company also has an exclusive agreement with Hyundai to import vehicles. Lex has diversified away from selling cars due to problems faced by car dealers in the UK, and also leases trucks. The company has acquired Multipart, a supplier of spare parts for trucks, as part of this diversification process. The company is still likely to be affected by problems facing car dealers as a whole and profit forecasts for 1995 have been revised downward.

Car makers rate Ryland

Article Abstract:

Ryland has some 50 franchises covering most of the main brands of cars, including both volume-car suppliers and upmarket brands. Margins tend to be better for the upmarket brands, while conditions in the market for used cars have become difficult. The company's profit for full-year 1998 appear to have been downgraded to 6 million pounds sterling from 6.3 million pounds, though they have in fact changed little and include amortisation of goodwill from acquisitions.
