Loy says DHS unit should coordinate cargo safety R and D

Article Abstract:

James Loy, Deputy of Homeland Security (DHS) stated that Research and Development by both government and industry is needed to produce new technology for detecting weapons or other threats, concealed in cargo containers without opening those boxes. This aims at ensuring that terrorists or rogue nations do not sent threatening items in the United States through its ports.

Frank LoBiondo, chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Coastguard states that the U.S. must push forward rapidly to acquire systems to detect threats like weapons of mass destruction or other threatening contents in cargo entering the U.S. ports.
