MCI is mad about change: campaign conjures a presidency's first 100 days

Article Abstract:

MCI Communications Corp's 'The MCI 100 Day Report #2' 30 second black-and-white television commercial has a macabre theme reminiscent of Orson Welles productions. The spots are advertising that the Federal Communications Commission ruled that businesses may transfer their 800 numbers to any long-distance carrier. Messner Vetere Bergner McNamee Schmetterer made the spot which is also a part of an integrated and broadcast campaign that is supposed to conjure the dramatic changes during the first 100 days of a presidency.

The printing company also offers a free 6-pack of Coke if their order is not delivered on time.

Canon's descent into incomprehensibility

Article Abstract:

Canon Inc's new CJ10 bubble-jet copier advertisement is cluttered and incomprehensible. The ad was made by DCA Advertising Inc and features an all-capital letter typeface of descending sizes that extends more than half the width of the ad. Thumbnail-sized photograph insets which try to show off the capabilities of the copier are too small and contibute to the cluttered appearance.
