Magnetostriction in surface crystallized metallic glasses

Article Abstract:

An experiment is carried out whereby surface crystallites are induced in a metallic iron-based glass using controlled heat treatment, showing that such glasses have magnetostrictive and highly permeable characteristics and that controlled crystallization is a suitable way of using them in device applications. The experiment is explained and the results are discussed.

Perception of surface pressured applied to the hand

Article Abstract:

Free modulus magnitude estimation was used to examine the psychophysical actions relating the subjective and physical magnitude of pressure applied to the human palm, and to determine at which pressure levels changes of the subjective experience occur. The results are significant to performing hand-intensive work, especially in the design of hand tools.

Nanocrystalline materials for soft magnetic applications

Article Abstract:

Nanocrystalline soft magnetic materials were discovered in 1988 and applications engineers are much interested in them as a new class of magnetic materials. Intrinsic characteristics include high permeability, low core losses and almost no magnetostriction. An investigation into the characteristics of nanocrystalline strip is presented.
