Maintaining Client Confidence

Article Abstract:

A survey in British Columbia, Canada of small business owners and professionals concerning professional accountants indicates high conceptions of the chartered accountant, his training, his abilities in business and his professional conduct. Most have changed accountants in the past and have chosen a new accountant generally based on referrals. Client satisfaction is high for those employing a chartered accountant. Dissatisfaction that does occur includes: 1) high fees, 2) insufficient advice or information, 3) not readily available, 4) incompetent and 5) not prompt. More than half feel alienated from their accountants and feel that their accountants need to keep more up-to-date. Guidelines outlining how accountants can use this information to attract and retain clients are included. Primary for this is the need to provide valuable services efficiently at a reasonable price. Constructive services beyond calculating tax returns can greatly enhance client satisfaction.
