Maintaining quality relationships between labor and management

Article Abstract:

More company heads and union leaders are acknowledging the benefits of better management-labor relationships. Such benefits involve enhanced profitability, mutual respect and job satisfaction. Experts also believe that healthy management-labor agreements will also benefit customers and the community. To further such relationships, managers and union leaders should strive harder to expand their roles in promoting a supportive work environment.

Increasing the rate of productivity improvements at Howmet Corporation

Article Abstract:

World-class companies create and implement improvement programs to enhance the rate at which productivity gains are achieved. Such gains boost customer satisfaction, financial performance and market share. Meanwhile, Greenwich, CT-based Howmet Corp attained productivity growth between 1992 and 1995 at 6% per year due to improvement programs. Howmet's efforts involve the development of conditions for sustaining productivity gains.

Their efforts to promote caring in their respective work environments have boosted their companies' productivity. They stress that productivity programs will not boost an organization's performance without the process of human relationship development.
