Making cash out of paper

Article Abstract:

Salehurst is a United Kingdom paper distributor which buys paper for publishers of periodicals and catalog producers. The company has increased its volume sales, but it performance has been masked by a drop in paper prices. Paper is delivered straight to clients from paper mills and is not on Salehurst's books. Demand for paper for periodicals is strong and a recession would be offset by a drop in paper prices. The company's profit is forecast at 2.7 million pounds sterling for 1998 by Greig Middleton.

Bunzl

Article Abstract:

Bunzl is a UK distributor of plastic products and paper which has handled price fluctuations well in 1995. The company's disposables division accounts for over half its profits and Bunzl ranks first in the US vending cups market, and second in the European market. The company's fine paper operations have been less affected by destocking than the industry as a whole, since its clients tend to be small firms. The company has completed a disposals program and is able to carry out acquisitions.

Bunzl's no longer a paper tiger

Article Abstract:

Bunzl carried out a number of acquisitions in the 1980s and this led to problems, but the company has moved to a focus on core activities with its chief executive, Anthony Habgood. Plastic and paper disposable products account for 58% of Bunzl's profit excluding central costs. The company has been affected by volatility in paper prices, but the company supplies small firms which do not hold large stocks, so has been less affected by some suppliers in fine paper distribution.
