Making the classic choice

Article Abstract:

Classic cars can prove to be an excellent choice for a company car in the UK as they will frequently be cheaper to operate mile for mile than comparable current production models. The use of classic cars for company vehicles offers distinct tax advantages. Scale charges are based on the original market value of the vehicle, which is inevitably lower in the case of a classic car: companies that choose classic cars rather than a similar vehicle of current make will get a car in the bottom threshold. Capital gains upon disposal of a classic can be exempted from capital gains and corporation taxes. Frequently, insurance companies will give cheaper rates for classic cars if mileage is limited to six thousand miles or under.

Road worthies

Article Abstract:

Vintage automobiles have appreciated steeply in the last few years. The annual value of the classic car market in Great Britain is approaching one billion pounds sterling. Because the appreciation of cars is comparable to the appreciation in the art market. It can be assumed that collectors consider antique cars to be works of art, and auction houses are playing a more active role in the market. One tax advantage of antique cars under British law is that they are considered not to be chargeable assets, so no gain or loss accrues to the disposal of vintage cars.
