Market reactions, characteristics, and the effectiveness of corporate layoffs

Article Abstract:

Corporate layoff announcements may cause different stock market reactions, which are largely dependent on the information given to shareholders regarding the financial performance of the company. This can be perceived as negative information or a sign that the firm's investments or growth opportunities are not so good as previously predicted. On the other hand, this can be taken positively, which can mean that the company wants to be more efficient and competitive.

A note on the optimal cutoff point in bankruptcy prediction models

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the optimal cutoff point for a bankruptcy prediction model is presented. The model is based on Bayesian statistical decision-making and integrates a loss function to minimize total error costs without affecting total error probability. It is shown that the decision model is applicable to cases involving a dichotomous classification dilemma with unequal error costs.
