Media potential raises football stakes

Article Abstract:

Takeover speculation and agreements with media companies could push up the stock prices of United Kingdom soccer clubs. There is speculation relating to Everton Football Club, and a consortium is thought to be seeking to acquire a 68% stake from the chairman, while the vice-chairman is also interested in the stake. Meanwhile, Granada has bought a 9.9% stake in Liverpool, and BSkyB has acquired 9% of Leeds Sporting. The Premier League television contracts is to be negotiated, and pay-per-view TV has great potential, which makes the Granada and BSkyB deals significant.
