Method amid the madness

Article Abstract:

Investors should be methodical when assessing whether to invest in a company, and this can be illustrated by using Dolphin Packaging as an example. The company's business is easy to understand, and the industry has good growth prospects. The company does not appear to use too much capital, and borrowings are not rising over the long-term, while return on capital is better than average. The chief executive has 100,000 worth of stocks in the company, which could be higher, but his pay is not excessive. The fair value for Dolphin Packaging's business is above its price in terms of stock market value, and interim results are good.

Article Abstract:

MY Holdings has a strong management team which aims to expand the company's size, especially through investments in mainland Europe. The company has sold its corrugated packaging activities and is concentrating on packaging for convenience foods and consumer products. AEP Borden was acquired in 1998 and will achieve a profit of some 1 million pounds sterling in 1999 following a loss of the same amount in 1998. Malbak is the company's majority stockholder and is also expanding, and a reverse into MY is possible.
