Article Abstract:

Pfizer acquired Rinat Neuroscience in deal worth $500 million approximately in April 2006, which demonstrates the increased interest in monoclonal in new indications, such as central nervous system (CNS) disorders. Pfizer was drawn to Rinat's two of its most advanced monoclonal antibodies that include the RN624 that treats pain by shutting down nerve growth factor (NGF) and RN1219 that clears Alzheimer-causing plaque from the brains of mice, but yet has to enter human trials.

Many pharmaceutical and biotech companies are trying to develop long-acting agonists of glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) mimetics as key components of drug regimens, as it reduces the necessity for insulin injection.
