Myth and measurement in the outlook for Emu

Article Abstract:

European financial markets expect European monetary union (Emu) to be launched on schedule in 1999, as shown by bond yields. The countries seen as likely to take part are France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. Interest rate spreads are likely to be wider for countries forecast to join Emu than for those countries seen as likely to be excluded. Yields indicate some scepticism, but they show that markets forecast that Emu is more likely to occur than not to be achieved.

Local Meter Measurement Expanding

Article Abstract:

Arbitron Ratings will be expanding local market meter measurement. The expansion is due to the growing importance of spot television. Another factor is population shifts and electronic media causing fragmentation of the local television market. Geodemography provides a better measurement of television and radio markets. A system of geodemography that profiles the population into distinct consumer groups is Cluster Plus.
