Acer thrives where others stumble: computer company relies on marketing to build Russian presence
Article Abstract:
Computer-maker Acer Inc's branch in Russia has succeeded despite the paucity of companies which have flourished in the former communist country. Acer had sold 576 multimedia PCs to 33 regional Russian Federal Employment Service offices. Acer defeated larger computer companies such as Dell Computer Corp, Hewlett-Packard Co and Siemens Nixdorf because of its strong marketing efforts and presence in Russia. Acer Moscow earned $80 million in 1996.
