NIE hangs on review

Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) has seen a rise in its share price since the company was privatized but the shares could be affected by a regulatory review. A sample of six brokers have assessed NIE shares and two rate the shares a buy, two rate them a hold and the remaining two are sellers. Buyers include Panmure Gordon which cites a likely buyback among reasons for believing that NIE's share price will rise. Sellers include Yamaichi which is concerned about the regulatory review.

Norweb is a UK electric utility with a turnover of 1.5 billion pounds sterling, supplying power to 2.2 million homes in the north west of England. The company's chief executive and chairman is Ken Harvey, and Peter McTague has developed the company's retail side. Norweb has diversified into generation and has sought to cut costs without making redundancies during the company's first five years after privatization. Some jobs will be shed, but this will involve voluntary redindancies.
