Natural mistake, or on the take?

Article Abstract:

The process of monetary integration in Europe opens up opportunities for fraud. The transition is expected to cause confusion, error and inconsistencies, which may be costly to correct and may engender a culture where small errors may come to be seen as normal. Many companies will be compelled to seek the help of outside experts to achieve 'Euro compliance.' By giving outsiders access to sensitive information, these organizations face that risk of fraud. Their cash funds could be diverted to various destinations and confidential corporate data could be sold or altered. However, proving guilt can be difficult and expensive because there is no way of clearly differentiating an honest mistake from an attempt to defraud the company. Banks and other business organizations are advised to identify and strengthen their weak spots to discourage fraud.

St Thomas' stock set to take a dive

Article Abstract:

The St Thomas' teaching hospital in London faces closure for its failure to avail of much needed government funds. The South East Thames Regional Health Authority had earlier announced its plan to provide 34 million pound sterling capital to one of its competitors, the King's College hospital. The South East Thames district has appropriated its risk reserves and can only provide contingency funds to a limited extent. District hospitals, however, are expected to attain break-even level even with limited financial assistance.
