Article Abstract:

Newport News Shipbuilding, Newport News, Va., is being awarded a $55,653,806 modification to previously awarded contract N00024-98-C-2104 that will include but is not limited to: advance planning, contract design, feasibility and tradeoff studies on new and modified shipboard systems and technologies; and documentation, engineering, detail design, procurement, fabrication, and shipyard work necessary to prepare and make ready for the construction of one Nimitz class aircraft carrier (CVN 77). With this modification the total value of the contract is $161,688,955. This contract contains options, which, if exercised, will bring the cumulative value of this contract to $246,084,500. Work will be performed in Newport News, Va., and is expected to be completed by December 2001. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Arlington, Va., is the contracting activity.

Avondale Industries, Inc., New Orleans, La., is being authorized to proceed with $78,000,000 in advance procurement for long lead equipment and planning for LPD 18 on a cost-plus-award-fee basis. Work will be performed in New Orleans, La., and is expected to be completed in February 2004. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the fiscal year. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Arlington, Va., is the contracting activity (N00024-97-C-2202).
