Navy electronic program won't yield bonanza for contractors

Article Abstract:

A better communication and control for combatants, savings for tax payers, will be provided by a Navy computer-linking and updating program. But, it is found that this program is not that useful for the largest defense contractors. The aim of the program is to shift the Navy and the three other services from the age when each contractor custom-made each system with proprietary software and hardware so that they couldn't communicate with each other to a new age where systems use open architecture with common interfaces that are fully interoperable.
