Newspaper's cheer fund helps needy residents

Article Abstract:

Community newspaper Greensburg Daily News of Greensburg, IN, has been accepting food and money donations for the needy in Decatur County, IN, since 1911. The newspaper is supported by numerous volunteers in giving out goods and clothing certificates to residents of Decatur County on the morning of Christmas Eve. Needy children also receive food and toys besides the clothing certificates. The goal of $29,000 for 1999 was achieved on Dec 23, while total donations for 1999 reached more than $31,450.

In-house advertising agency broadens services offered

Article Abstract:

Thomson Newspapers of Indiana established an in-house advertising agency called XL Marketing, whose main goal is to broaden the number of services offered by the newspapers to its advertising customers. XL Marketing was able to sell creative services and advertising space worth $90,000 between Jun and Dec 1999. XL Marketing offered logo design, sings, billboards and direct mail to new customers, with 70% of new clients purchasing these services.

Advertising campaign increases brand image awareness scores

Article Abstract:

The Omaha World Herald started an advertising campaign to improve brand image awareness and boost the newspaper's 'image attribute' scores. A tracking study showed that brand image awareness rose from 13 to 19%. Advertising image recall was significantly higher for helpful news for children and families; opea and read daily; useful in everyday life; and on news and information about the city and neighborhoods.
