Nikon Inc of Melville, NY, has introduced two new professional interchangeable-lens digital SLR cameras. These include the $5,5000 5.4- megapixel Nikon D1x Professional Digital SLR and the $4,500 Nikon D1h Professional Digital SLR. The D1x model processes images to 3,0009-by- 1,960-pixel output, producing both uncompressed TIFF and compressed JPEG files. The D1h model, on the other hand, produces TIFF files of 7.9 megabytes in 8-bit color depth.

Applied Science Fiction (ASF) of Austin, TX, has developed an innovative scanning technology called Digital ICE. The technology allows for the automatic removal of surface imperfections such as dust, fingerprints and scratches, thus, eliminating the need for post-scan cleanup. Digital ICE is an OEMA hardware and software system that must be integrated into a scanner as a joint venture between ASF and the scanner maker.

Nikon Inc of melville, NY, has unveiled three new high-speed desktop film scanners that offer Applied Science Fiction's DIgital ICE3 technology, a suite of digital enhancement tools for color correction and elimination of surface defects on transparencies and negatives. The scanners also utilize Nikon's Scanner ED lens technology, which features extra-low dispersion glass for improved image sharpnes.
