Article Abstract:

Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) has been affected by increased competition following deregulation of the regional market. The company has a 50% stake held by the Danish, Norwegian and Swedish governments. Alliances have been set up with a number of airlines including Lufthansa, United Airlines, Air Canada and Varig. The company sees world wide alliances as a way to focus better on the Scandinavian market. SAS has cut prices and improved services. Norway is unwilling to reduce its stake, though such a sale could help the company to release funds.
