Nortel, one year later

Article Abstract:

For about the last 10 years, growth and lower interest rates have marked the securities industry, however, it was a year ago when Nortel share prices suffered a drastic fall. Many complaints are filed against financial advisors in times of loss. By 2000, the number of Canadian shareholders reached 49%, with 56% of them consulting professionals to assist them in investing.

Article Abstract:

The claims of supporters of a common currency for the United States and Canada appear to be validated by the events of 2001. However, those partisans should remember that while the Canadian dollar did not achieve a fair valuation in 2001 compares to the US dollar, the Canadian dollar held its own against other currencies.

Is our inflation target too tight?

Article Abstract:

It may be prudent to review monetary policy in Canada, now that the economy has improved, particularly with regard to the inflation target that many consider too restrictive.
