One-dimensional V-scope analysis of habituation to simulated cross-country skiing

Article Abstract:

The physiological responses to simulated cross-country skiing were measured using a new telemetric ultrasound motion monitor called the V-scope. Ten young men engaged in a total of 45 minutes of distributed practice on a Nordic-Track ski simulator. The cadence and velocity were unchanged over a period of three 15-minutes session. Step and stride lengths decreased significantly (p<0.05) after the first 15-minute session and then remained unchanged. A normal gait was indicated by no left-right differences across all sessions. The usefulness of the system as a motion analyzing device is discussed.

The effect of load carrying and floor contaminants on slip and fall parameters

Article Abstract:

Load carrying and floor contaminants affect the slip and fall resistance parameters, including heel velocity and stride length, in slippery industrial environments. The conventional set-up values for heel velocity are extremely low and unapplicable for oily floors where decreased stride length leads to faster transfer of body weight. Heel velocities of 60-140 cm are ideal for effects and dynamic coefficient of friction. Oily floors and heavy load carriage lead to short stride length and abnormal gait pattern as a result of an effort to maintain better stance on slippery floors.
