Out of Time limited edition CD

Article Abstract:

The packaging of R.E.M.'s Out of Time limited edition compact disc won a gold award in the packaging category of the 1992 I.D. Annual Design Review. The unique compact disc package includes a loose-leaf selection of artworks by artists such as Starn Twin photographs and Ben Katchor cartoons printed on recycled paper. Each piece can be mailed as postcards. The package design was made by Tom Recchion and R.E. M. lead singer Michael Stipe.

Article Abstract:

The packaging design of Mottura Bath and Shower Gel won a gold award in the packaging category of the 1992 I.D. Annual Design Review. The packaging was designed to be environmentally friendly. Thus, a roll-up key is provided with the product to minimize waste and the aluminum container is recyclable. The hieroglyphic depiction of scents and the construction of the boxes add to the overall appeal of the product.

San Francisco AIDS Foundation condom box

Article Abstract:

The San Francisco AIDS Foundation condom box designed by Chuck Routhier received a gold award in the packaging category of the 1992 I.D. Annual Design Review. The package designers tried to be non-gender and non-race specific. This was done by using the image of a condom-clad banana and a chocolate-sprinkled doughnut. Overall, the effect was one of sophisticated humor.
