Performance requirements of physically strenuous occupations: validating minimum standards for muscular strength and endurance

Article Abstract:

Minimally accepted standards for the muscular strength and endurance necessary to perform fire suppression activities are validated. A national study noted that while 97% of fire departments in the USA have physical performance requirements for hiring, only 33% require continuing employees to undergo physical performance testing.

Standing, sitting and associated working conditions in the Quebec population in 1998

Article Abstract:

A study describes self-reported usual working postures in a population and their associations with other working conditions and demographic variables. The analyses in the study conducted were limited to respondents with paid employment who had at least 6 months seniority in their current jobs, comprising 9,425 subjects.

Modulation of mechanical and muscular load by footwear during catering

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to investigate the biomechanical load on the lower extremity and the low back during catering service when wearing different types of footwear. The results demonstrated that manipulations to footwear offer a great potential for modulating loads experienced during catering.
