Philips: disc makers in a spin

Article Abstract:

Philips Electronics has decided to grant individual licenses for digital video disc technology. Negotiations have been slow on organizing combinedprocessing of licenses for various stages of the technology, and Philips' move is an expression of frustration at the delays. Other developers could become alienated by Philips' move and there is a risk that competing standards for the new technology could be established which would cause problems for the industry.
