Article Abstract:

Canada faces major challenges as it strives to intensify its participation in the new 'global village.' Canadian companies need to develop strategies that promote flexibility and quality to ensure that they can compete in the international market. They should also tap the increasing multiculturalism with their organizations to access new international markets. For its part, the Canadian government needs to address its federal deficit to make the country more attractive to foreign investors.

Competitiveness linked to quality

Article Abstract:

A joint study carried out by Ernst and Young and the American Quality Foundation reveals the different quality management methods employed by four industry sectors in four countries. The International Quality Study focuses on the automotive, computer peripherals, health care and banking industries in the US, Japan, Germany and Canada. The best methods for each industry type are explored, as are the influnces of local cultures and the possible future trends in quality management.

Three months after assuming his post at Norcen, he had already made such daring moves as terminating three senior vice presidents, laying off 130 employees, introducing an ambitious restructuring plan and cancelling the traditional company Christmas party.
