The Edge of the Millenium symposium aimed to evaluate the relevance of design for the 21th century. Architects spoke of the need to find new directions for architectural design after trends that over-focused on images such as modernism and post-modernism. Product designers on the other hand criticized technological innovations for the lack of practical applications they offer rather than concentrating on ineffective reality simulation.
