Power outage results in unpredictable financial costs to a company because of operational disturbances, and the ensuing litigation. Such an energy price risk can be hedged by entering into derivatives contract similar to that of interest rate risk. The trend of managing the risks of weather with the help of weather derivatives is also discussed.
