Predicting slips and falls considering required and available friction

Article Abstract:

The links between measurements of friction, biomechanics of gait and actual slip and fall events were investigated with the aim of developing a method to estimate slip and fall probability. It was found that the number of slip and fall events rose as the difference between the required coefficient of friction and the measured dynamic coefficient of friction rose.

Slip resistant properties of footwear on ice

Article Abstract:

The slip resistant properties of footwear namely sole materials, roughness and hardness on Coefficient of kinetic friction (COF) on ice are explored. The results showed that the polyurethane soling did not perform better than synthetic rubber, nitrile rubber and natural rubber on pure hard ice.

Biomechanics of slips

Article Abstract:

The article examines human gait as a component in occupational slip-and-fall accidents. Topics include floor surface, shoe surface, ratio of normal to shear foot forces, locomotion coefficient of friction, postural adaptations and control systems, and perception of environment during walking.
