Preferential pricing boosts loyalty card

Article Abstract:

Click, one of South Africa's leading retailers, has announced that its loyalty card scheme is proving to be very successful. The retailer first introduced the scheme in 1996 and already has 1.8mn members, which are expected to rise to 1.9mn by the end of 1998. The number of members is said to be growing at a rate of 25,000 a month although the launch of preferential prices for card holders during the summer has boosted this figure to 35,000 new members per month. Card holders can now receive an automatic reduction in the price of the goods they purchase of up to 60% on top of the 2% discount which they are entitled to as members of the 'No Coupon Required' scheme. Click is said to be the only retailer in South Africa to offer a loyalty scheme to its customers.
