Pretesting in questionnaire design: a review of the literature and suggestions for further research

Article Abstract:

A review of literature on the pretesting of questionnaires is presented. The aim was to consolidate recommendations made in the normative literature with empirical evidence regarding key aspects of pretesting. Another aim was to identify important areas for future research. The review shows that there are a lot of normative contributions but a lack of empirical investigation. Determining the most effective method of pretesting is one of the most important questions for which more empirical data is required.

Using optical mark read surveys: an analysis of response rate and quality

Article Abstract:

Optical mark read (OMR) surveys provide researchers with a new research tool that could provide adequate survey data at reduced labor costs. However, data obtained using OMR surveying techniques are not very reliable as compared with those obtained using traditional mail surveys (TMSs). This finding indicates that researchers should use TMS methods instead of OMR when the response quality is deemed critical to the outcome of the study.

Pricing research techniques: a review and a new approach

Article Abstract:

A review of a 1981 research paper on the techniques used in pricing research is provided. The paper proved to be effective in creating a framework for evaluating the importance of various pricing techniques identified. Problem areas, such as the need for 'non-purchase' options, have been eliminated. However, price randomization in Brand-Price Trade-Off studies continue to create other difficulties.
