Article Abstract:

The imminent privatizations of four telecommunications companies in Australia are troubled by the less-than-enthusiastic response recent flotations of telecommunications companies' stock have met from investors. Australia's national phone company, Telstra, hopes to raise A$10 billion, while Korea Telecom, Mahanagar Telephone Nigar and China Telecom (Hong Kong) hope to raise US$1.2 billion, US$750 million and US$2 billion, respectively.

Mortgage-backed notes without the property risk

Article Abstract:

Hongkong Telecom was the first Asian company, other than financial services firms and banks, to sell floating-rate notes backed by employees' home mortgages. About 656 employees were involved in a company plan that offered employees housing loans with lower interest rates than banks. The company has since sold the pool of mortgages to remove the property risk and to maximize balance sheet benefits.
