Quality management, not just quality control, should be the corporate ideal

Article Abstract:

CEOs of US corporations find it necessary to take an active part in quality management because of Japanese competition. Comparing quality management to financial management is a simple way of explaining the process to top management, since the same ideas are used in managing finance and quality. A quality council should be organized and should include the CEO and his staff, to emphasize the importance of quality in the organization. It is also vital that quality be defined clearly so that every employee will understand the council's objectives.
