Quantifying low back peak and cumulative loads in open and senior sheep shearers in New Zealand: Examining the effects of a trunk harness

Article Abstract:

Low back pain (LBP) is an occupational hazard for sheep shearers who have to adopt sustained flexed postures for prolonged periods of time and it is believed that this is due to cumulative rather than peak loading over the course of a workday. Research attempting to quantify the low back cumulative load exposure in sheep shearers with and without the aid of a commercial trunk harness concluded that the use of the trunk harness could reduce the risk of injury.

Evaluation of the effect of backpack load and position during standing and walking using biomechanical, physiological and subjective measures

Article Abstract:

Biomechanical, physiological and subjective data was used to analyze the effects of increasing load and changing the placement of the load during standing, and walking. Results indicate a preference for the lumbar placement, suggesting that carrying loads of 10% of body weight and above should be avoided.

Manual lifting load limit equation for adult Indian women workers based on physiological criteria

Article Abstract:

A comprehensive equation for the evaluation of a maximum load limit for manual load lifting is developed. This is based on a physiological criterion due to the limitation of applicability of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).
