Recognition for Management Accounting

Article Abstract:

While financial account reporting in the public sector is fairly well-defined and standardized, management accounting reports are not so easily compared. A wide variety of reports on decision-making exist, and standards for preparing these reports have been developed. As opposed to writing guidelines and after observing the success of the Public Sector Accounts Award in achieving improvements in financial reporting, the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy in the United Kingdom has established a new award scheme for management accounts reports. Entries can be submitted until March 31, 1984. This will not be a competition like the other award, as criteria have not yet been developed for comparison. The range of reports is wide and all types of submissions will be accepted. The objective is to publish a wide range of reports to assist in better defining criteria for useful management accounting reports.

Government Financial Reporting

Article Abstract:

The London Business School is studying government financial reporting in the United Kingdom. The report is due for completion in April 1984. The purpose of the study is to determine what the users, members of Parliament, financial specialists or interest groups want out of the report, as this is not as clearly definable as it is in the private sector. In the United Kingdom, Members of Parliament are less interested in the documents since they are less powerful than the United States Congress to make any changes. Therefore, the study will include an examination of the international experience. The study will also encompass the scope of information to be included, as it appears that too much information which creates confusion is included now.
