Scrutinising business banking

Article Abstract:

The Office of Fair Trading and the Competition Commission are asking for scrutiny of big banks that deal with small businesses (SME) and have criticized these banks for poor service quality and excessive profits as they found these banks making pounds sterling 700m a year in the period 1998-2002 from their SME customers. The OFT announced a new review of those undertakings and the performance of banks in relation to their small business clients.

Big Four split over OFR

Article Abstract:

The Big Four is split down the middle over the removal of the statutory operating and financial review (OFR) for listed companies. Pricewaterhouse Coopers supports the OFR because it is taking a pragmatic view, which leads to re-adoption in the future, and the government originally backed the OFR but the chancellor is believed to have changed his mind after pressure from the Confederation of British Industry.
