Serendipitous monetizer

Article Abstract:

Houston Industries Inc (HI) was able to use Automatic Common Exchange Security (ACES) to consolidate its stake at Time Warner effectively ensuring that the company earns at Time Warner even if its shares are trading at below normal levels. ACES effectively caps any downside exposure to the company while enabling profits to be earned during the upside. HI now sits on unrealized gains of $304 million on the company's 22.9 million-share exposure.
