Settling foreign investment disputes via ICSID

Article Abstract:

Senior management of international business enterprises should be aware of the World Bank affiliate The International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), which was established in 1966 to mediate disputes between private foreign investors and host states involving foreign direct investment (FDI), because the agency will become increasingly important in resolving FDI disputes in third-world countries. The ISCID's jurisdiction is limited to disputes occurring in countries that have ratified the international convention that established the agency: 98 countries had ratified the convention by end of 1990. The ISCID has collected and published investment laws of over 80 less developed countries.
