NIE promotion targets local business community with ad

Article Abstract:

The Fresno Bee newspaper implemented a Newspaper in Education (NIE) initiative on Sep 9, 1999, that is aimed at convincing local businesses to donate $100 or more to the newspaper's Help A Kid Read program. The campaign, which included a direct mail package, encourages company participation by including the names of the contributors to the paper's International Literacy Day special section. The Fresno Bee effort netted $9,500 to the NIE program.

Staff uses humour to promote weekly employment section

Article Abstract:

The Tampa Tribune newspaper implemented a humorous marketing campaign for the launching of its PayDay section. The section incorporates the paper's employment section as well as a freestanding weekly publication. The campaign, which was implemented for three months, included advertisements in radio, newspapers and billboards. Tampa Tribune's PayDay section is aimed at the low- to mid-income level market and has a circulation of 40,000 per week.
