Short on money, Coast Guard plans Deepwater changes

Article Abstract:

Coast Guard, third oldest of 42 naval forces has planned to make changes in its Deepwater acquisition program, due to the less money they have been provided. Vice commandant of the Coast Guard Terry Cross revealed that the changes to the program could include altering the order in which platforms are procured from their planned sequence, thus creating different priorities within Deepwater.

Experts: Targeted acceleration could benefit deepwater, shipyards

Article Abstract:

The shipbuilding industrial base would benefit if the Coast Guard would consider accelerating some proven platforms in its massive Deepwater modernization program. The Senator Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) says that the Coast Guard Deepwater plans were inadequate and that the service needs to procure more ships and aircraft and buy them sooner.

IT contractor develops online Coast Guard system

Article Abstract:

SI International, Inc. has devised a system for vessels to file paperwork with the Coast Guard electronically. SI International's new system allows vessel operators in transit to download the necessary NOA/D forms to their on-board computer.
